Insurance specialists: 


  • Review commercial property insurance documentation, including final settlement information, and identify additional information needed
  • Determine the amount of actual or estimated insurance proceeds for the work
  • Ensure there is no duplication of benefits in the grant funding that is provided by insurance coverage
  • Determine future insurance requirements for the damaged facility
  • Determine any National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements
  • Review requests to modify insurance requirements.


This position is 100% travel and based at FEMA’s Joint Field Offices and other disaster field offices. 



  1. National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Certified
  2. Minimum Two (2) years of full-time professional experience writing Commercial Insurance policies
  3. Willingness and ability to travel to US destinations following disaster event in short notice (48-72 hours) and remain deployed for up to six (6) to twelve (12) months
  4. Strong critical thinking, written, and oral communication skills.
  5. Ability to work independently or in teams.
  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Must be computer literate and proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel)
  3. Valid driver’s license required
  1. Ability to pass a Public Trust background security clearance check
  2. Ability to pass a credit check for issuance of a credit card
  1. US Citizen


  1. Knowledge and understanding of FEMA Public Assistance Program law, regulation and policy
  2. Prior FEMA PA-TAC experience
  3. A FEMA Badge or a Public Trust clearance or higher, adjudicated within the last 6 months
  4. FEMA Course #0719 Insurance Specialist
  5. Knowledge of Emergency Management Mission Integrated Environment (EMMIE) or Grants Manager
